Try - outs... the way of the world.

Well I had my C league ( I like to call it newbie Hockey player league) Tryouts on Tuesday night. I did alright. Considering it was my SECOND TIME ever playing an organized game (I use that term loosely here). I could have done much worse. The guys were nice but I find myself competing against "guys" all the time. Is it very a fair competition? At work the male to female ratio is a joke. I KNOW I KNOW I am the one that choose a male dominated field to enter. So really there is no one to blame but myself.
I find myself reflecting on the statement my brother said to me in middle school. Since I never ended up on the "all girls" team I always played sports with boys. If I was slow or not as skilled that particular day he would say. "come on Carolyn...YOUR PLAYING LIKE A GIRL." It's echoed through me my entire life and came full circle on Tuesday night when Brad made the comment "you need to be more aggressive out there.... your playing like a girl. Remember, they are more afraid of you than you are of them." Wow...way do sum up my life in a nutshell.
If you think about what as been en grained in my head from a young age it always comes back to the one common theme. Try harder than those around you and be better than you think you can be. That has gotten me through many challenges in my life. Sometimes I just have to remember... they are more afraid of me than I am of them.

Really... Almost a whole month gone?

So I keep saying to myself... "I should really update my blog." But, I become a little too preoccupied with other things and push it off. So lets start with May 7th. My Birthday. A Sad Sort being 29 this year but got a ton of well wishes from friends and a wonderful call at 7:00 am from my Jilly bean welcoming me to the 29 year old club. Its a club I would rather not be a member of but... it's a pretty good company so you can't be too upset. I got wonderful bouquet from my boyfriend delivered to the house (work from home day) an awesome dinner with some good company at Tokyo steak house. MY FAV! On May 8th we got to take Brad's niece Sophie to a Round Rock Express game. She ate some hot dog, cotton candy, Popcorn and a drank her sprite. Needless to say that gave her plenty of energy to roll down the lawn, Play on the play scape, and jump on the bouncy they have set up for the kids. However, we never made it to the fireworks they have on Friday night games. She was ready to go after the 7th inning. The next morning we took Sophie up to Rudy's to meet Brads family for a Birthday Breakfast! His family is amazing and always makes me feel important :)

Afterwards I had a little surprise. Brad was sweet and took me to the ballet. Which also happened to be his friend Alyson's Last performance with the Austin Ballet company. Which made even more special. It was a lovely performance of Cinderella and I really enjoyed it.
I had a very eventful birthday celebration. A lot of fun stuff. Not the normal thing I do but sometimes different is good.

I guess the only other thing I should mention is that I have really took a liking to this Hockey thing. I have actually signed up for another league. So not only am I playing in the Mixed league with Brad but I am also playing in a "beginners" League too. I won't know anyone on this team so it will be very interesting how I fair.
Never the less... VERY EXCITING.

Besides all that I am sitting here enjoying my Memorial day weekend. Had a Great chat with Jill and am convinced one of her "friends" is extremely obsessed with her. Note to self call her tomorrow and make sure she isn't trapped in the crazies basement. I went shopping for baby clothes for my niece and nephew I get to meet in a couple weeks. And saw Night at the Museum 2 which I REALLY enjoyed. I still have to try and run 6 miles tomorrow even though I am having some sinus issues and I STILL have 2 days left of VACA! Good news all around.
